Music to my ears
Let's get Groov'n!

I want to share with you some links to artists that I have come to know personally and through the love of a good song to lift me up and take me away.

You will want to keep your ear to the tracks on these folks. Many of which are superb at their art however as it goes, often unknown by most. So this is a chance for you to check out what Wow-ThatsCool has determined to be a "Wow" because, well, they are all just so cool! So, check them out and enjoy!

Joel Cage

http://www.joelcage.com

Well, Joel is just the coolest, crunchiest, Trippy Hippy that ever pondered the human condition and then conveys it so passionately with his music and writing!

A rare treat indeed!

I highly recommend any chance you get to let this well accomplished fellow just about break his guitar for your listening pleasure. I don't mean he will pull some Jummy Hendrix, pour lighter fluid on it and then smash his axe on stage kind of a deal. He doesn't have to. His heart and soul is his lighter fluid and his fingers just about spark.

This explosive combination has put a hole just above the strings on his axe for real and if you were not looking, it sounds like several people are playing the room.
It's just Joel, his axe, a microphone and the love and passion inside of him that he pours out every time he preforms. His style is unique. His presence is kind. His music is soulful!

His newsletters will sometimes include a written piece at the bottom that is called "An incomplete thought" He invites you to write him back to finish the thought. The trick is that Joel writes in a kind of "stream of consciousness" that is a tough act to follow.  But at the same time, the things he writes, will ignite your mind!  See if you can finish one of Joel's sunrise written thoughts.

"Wow Joel, your cool!"
I am honored to be a friend and a fan.

Another simply AMAZING local folk band to our area. If you have the rare chance to be in the middle of nowhere when they are playing to a small group of people who happened to be just as lucky to also be there, you will say 'Wow, they are cool!"

No fancy tricks here, just some very talented musicians that prefer to create their own sound with the aid of no more than one microphone and each other.

Truly, a VERY special rarity.

The Grateful Dead

http://www.dead.net/

I have Sirius Satellite Radio in my car and on the way to work and back every day is the only time I get a chance to listen to anything. It is STUCK on channel 32! This is the Grateful Dead Channel. I am constantly blown away because as they play each song, I hit the "INFO" button and discover where and when the version of the song was preformed and recorded live. As they spanned their carrier, a movement of recording each and almost every show was taking place. Now that Jerry Garcia is gone, his music lives on and I can hear it all.

The link above is of their site. Sirius sucks as a business model with respect to their practices and customer service so they don't get a link. Find them yourself. I will let someone who wants to make a site called something like "Wow, that sucks" handle them.

Neil Young

My first album was Harvest! His site is very cool.
Neil has spanned many decades and does something very unique, he will write an average of one album a year and preform it on the road BEFORE he releases it to the public. A rare trait and a delight to experience. If he comes to your town, check this LEGEND out for sure!

Zan Gardner (in memory of)

http://www.zangardner.com/bio.html

To my delight, as I wandered though old links to share cool ones with you, I came across this link to my dearly departed friend. The site is still up. I said "Wow, thats cool!"

She was an AMAZING singer. She could sing a range that would take you from one end of the spectrum and dump you off at the other before you could say "I'll have another Yuengling Lager please." She sang with a truly soulful and heartfelt intent.

We miss her. Check it out and let her music live on.

The Getaway People

I sure wish they stayed together. What an unusual group.
Very cool song writing that blended a plethora of world styles together.

I have been blessed with the unique oppertunity to have seen them 4 times in their short carrier, including their very last ever show in NYC in 2001. I went with my darely departed friend Bill Krebbs. We had the best time living it up on the town in NYC and even somehow, in a drunken stuper, ended up back stage after the show to hang with the fellows!

Get their albums! Every song is different and well written. If you want to hear something different, here they are.

(In looking for their site, it seems that they have not kept it going. It HAS been a number of years now.)
Here is a link to a that has samples and some god and poor quality videos:

The Getaway People is a post-alternative combo from Stavanger, Norway. Like Beck, the band blends a number of genres -- surf, blues, rock, soul -- and filters it through contemporary hip-hop trends and a lo-fi aesthetic. The band formed in 1994, taking their name from a British advertisement campaign. In the spring of 1998, they released their eponymous debut album in America on the Columbia subsidiary Tangerine. Two years later, the group returned with Turnpike Diaries.

OK, get ready for this amazing lady!
A good friend of mine was in New Orleans a few months ago and was staying a few blocks away from her home where some locals turned him onto this local and even national treasure. She has been on Letterman and preforms all over the US. I get choked up every time I listen.

I highly recommend two You Tube tracks in particular:

1) "Birds fly away"

2) "Find the cost of freedom"

I just can not stop saying "WOW!"
ENJOY!
